A feature typical of Mahou Shoujo (Magical Girl) series are the costumes that the heroine wears. As a series of this genre, Cardcaptor Sakura is no exception; Sakura, the heroine, wears costumes. Although, as with other features typical of the Mahou Shoujo genre, Cardcaptor Sakura takes this concept and adds a twist. While a heroine usually has a 'standard' costume to wear, Sakura has a multitude of costumes to wear, all designed and created by her best friend, Tomoyo Daidouji. Throughout the series, Sakura can be seen wearing an array of colourful, over the top costumes, none of which are ever the same, while attempting to capture Clow Cards. Some of the costumes are pure fashion, made for no other purpose than Tomoyo's enjoyment, while other costumes serve a functional purpose and aid Sakura in capturing the cards. Tomoyo even has a costume-changing van!

Below, you can find all of Tomoyo's costumes complete with commentary.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in the first season opening theme, Catch You Catch Me. For this costume, Tomoyo has taken a pastal pink dress with cream trimming and placed it over a white shirt and two petty coats, giving the dress a fuller appearance. To compliment the colours of the dress, bright red bows have been used to embellish just about everything from the shirt and gloves to the shoes and hat. White knee high socks and wings complete the costume.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 2, "Sakura's Wonderful Friend," while attempting to capture the Shadow. Starting with a long-sleeve navy blue leotard, Tomoyo has layered on top of this a white vest with long tails followed by a big, red cloak secured around Sakura's shoulders with a big red bow. Sitting on Sakura's head is a big red hat with a blue band, which extends the length of Sakura's back and is embellished at the ends with golden buckles. To complete the costume, Tomoyo has used white gloves, knee-high navy blue socks as well as white and red sneakers.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 3, "Sakura's Heart-throbbing First Date," while attempting to capture the Watery. Inspired by jesters, Tomoyo has taken a blue leotard and over the top of this, she has placed a white collared dress with a tapering, split skirt. The big, blue two-tierd jester's hat creates the focal point of this costume while long blue gloves and blue jester shoes with curled toes emphasize the theme. Bells on the end of the tapering, split skirt, the hat and even the shoes complete this outfit.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 4, "Sakura's Exhausting Sunday," while attempting to capture both the Rain and the Wood. Heading in a different direction, Tomoyo has taken a futuristic approach with this costume, giving everything a space-like quality. Taking a light pink dress with padded trimming around the hem of the skirt, padded sleeves and a padded collar as well as a golden name plate, Tomoyo has added to this white gloves with light pink knuckle guards, white shoes with similar light pink ankle guards, white tights and a light pink headband adorned with wings.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 6, "Sakura and the Memory of Her Mother," while attempting to capture the Illusion for the first time. Perhaps one of her more 'reserved' costumes, Tomoyo has taken a pastel blue body suit to which she has attached puffy, pastel pink sleeves and shorts as well as fluffy, yellow pompoms. Adorning Sakura's head is what unifies and brings this costume together: the rabbit ears. Without them, it would be difficult not to think that Sakura looks similar to a clown. To complete this rather simple costume, Tomoyo has used pastel blue, open-finger gloves, cream tights and pastel blue ballet flats with more fluffy yellow pompoms.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 6, "Sakura and the Memory of Her Mother," while attempting to capture the Illusion for the second time. When designing this costume, it appears that Tomoyo had Sakura's safety and protection in mind. For instance, while attempting to capture the Illusion for the first time, Sakura became unconscious and plummeted head first off the face of a cliff. If it were not for Yukito being in the right place at the right time, the outcome may have been very different. Not wanting to take any chances this time, Tomoyo has used a yellow and white dress with shoulder guards - similar to those of grid iron players - and an umbrella-like skirt, the idea for which could have come from the concept of using an umbrella as a floating device. In addition, Tomoyo has also used a headband complete with working radio for communication purposes. Completing the costume are matching white gloves and knee-high socks as well as yellow and white sneakers.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 7, "Sakura's First Challenge as a Thief!?," while attempting to capture the Silent. For this costume, Tomoyo has created a functional outfit without compromising the design. Using a dark teal colour, Tomoyo has taken a long-sleeved midriff top, short shorts and thigh-high boots to create a costume appropriate for sneaking around a high-security museum in the dead of the night. To make the costume more fashion-orientated, Tomoyo has added bat wings to the back as well as a blue, diamond motif repeated throughout the outfit on the dark teal hat, black gloves, midriff top and boots.
Sakura can be seen wearing this costume in episode 8, "Sakura's Rival Appears," while attempting to capture the Thunder. Created from rubber so as not to conduct electricity should Sakura be struck by the card, Tomoyo has started with a long-sleeved black dress, under which she has placed a light pink petty coat, giving the skirt of the dress a fuller appearance. Over the top of the dress, Tomoyo has placed an elaborate bright pink apron, with large ruffled sleeves and a ruffled skirt, which ties up into a large bow at the back. To the ends of the bow, Tomoyo has also added bells. Adorning Sakura's head are large, black and pink feline ears and reaching out from underneath Sakura's dress is a long, black feline tail. In keeping with the cat theme, Tomoyo has also added a bell to Sakura collar, much like a cat collar. Completing the costume are black tights and black and pink, mid-calf boots.
This costume first appeared in episode 11, "Sakura, Tomoyo and the Big House," when Tomoyo wanted to show Sakura her most recently completed outfit. Sakura however, was not seen wearing this costume until the following episode, "Sakura's Endless Day," while attempting to capture the Time. As an interpretation of a fairy, Tomoyo has used a soft yellow, form-fitting dress with a short, ruffled skirt. Embellishing the front of the dress is a golden ring and decorative seem. Under the skirt of the dress, Tomoyo has used puffy short shorts and to the back of the dress, she has attached large, lime green fairy wings. As an extra element which unifies the costume, Tomoyo has used matching puffy yellow arm bands, wrist bands, hair ties and choker. Completing the costume are white ballet flats with yellow pompoms.
