Mahou Shoujo ('Magical Girl') is a fansite dedicated to the anime and manga series, Cardcaptor Sakura. Available here is somewhat exclusive, in-depth information covering every aspect of the series, an image gallery with over 50,000 high quality images and screen captures, downloadable media of all types, a resource section for webmasters and mistresses and an omake ('other') section with goodies for the visitor.
Mahou Shoujo is Japanese for 'Magical Girl,' a term which is also used to refer to a particular genre of anime. Given that Sakura herself is a Mahou Shoujo, and the series is part of the genre, the name seemed only appropriate for a Cardcaptor Sakura website.
The story behind Mahou Shoujo is long and detailed, stretching all the way back to 2001 when I was only 12-years-old and still in Primary School. In those days, the Cardcaptor Sakura community was enormous; there were literally hundreds of fansites dedicated to the series, although not all of them were good. In fact, most of them were plagiarising, grammatically-incorrect clones with little to no original content. However, among the mess, there were a handful of sites which stood out for the right reasons. These websites actually consisted of content and were run by webmasters and mistresses who were actually interested in the series rather than how much money they could earn. Those were the websites which inspired me to create my own Cardcaptor Sakura fansite. However, at the young age of 12 and with no previous experience in owning and maintaining websites, I had absolutely no idea what it was that I was getting myself into nor did I anticipate that it would become a project that would occupy my life for such a length of time (nearly seven years!)
The fansite you see before you is in fact the rebirth of a Cardcaptor Sakura site I created three or four years ago entitled Cherry Star, however, that site was never seen by public eyes. Just as I was getting ready to open Cherry Star, something inside me just kind of died, and the site was never launched. To this day, Cherry Star still sits untouched on a free server (a very bad free server), collecting dust. If you feel so inclined, you may visit it here although be cautious of the popups!
Despite the fact that I had made the decision to 'close' a site I did not even open, I could not leave the idea of having a Cardcaptor Sakura website alone. In the following months and years, I went through phases where I would want to open the site again and I would work on it here and there. Sooner or later however, this inspiration would die and I would be back to where I was. There was just something about throwing away so many years of hard work that I could not possibly come to terms with.
Eventually, I made the decision that I wanted to just own and maintain a Cardcaptor Sakura image gallery and that was the catalyst for creating Cheerio! However, old habits die hard and during the construction of Cheerio!, I would find myself working on content for a Cardcaptor Sakura fansite. In the time that I was constructing a Cardcaptor Sakura image gallery, I was also unintentionally constructing a Cardcaptor Sakura fansite. By the time that Cheerio! was virtually complete, I had managed to create enough content to create a Cardcaptor Sakura fansite. I decided that I would try my luck again and actually put this content to use by recreating my Cardcaptor Sakura website, the result of which is before you.
Mahou Shoujo was officially launched on [insert date here].
Big plans await Mahou Shoujo!
Despite the amount of content already available on the site, there is still a great deal more I would like to add. These future additions will include detailed episode and movie re-caps as well as episode and movie transcripts, detailed chapter re-caps and additional information to The Series section such as Blood Type information, a CCS Calendar and so on as well as completing unfinished sections. There is also the possibility of adding a whole new section to Mahou Shoujo, which will make the site more interactive for visitors, with things like a games room, an adoption agency, a voting booth and more.
